A New Chapter in Incident Management
At COMET, we are committed to enhancing safety and efficiency within organisations. Recently, our Chief Operating Officer, Steve Holmes, and COMET Product Manager, Mark Rae, sat down to discuss the importance of incident management and introduce our new Incident Management Module.
The Importance of Incident Management for Safety and Compliance
In the video, Steve highlights the important role of incident management in maintaining safety and compliance across a variety of sectors. Steve draws from his experience as a health and safety expert and highlights how incident management when done correctly, can prevent severe outcomes. The importance of having robust systems in place to identify and address incidents quickly and prevent minor issues from escalating into major problems is critical for organisations. Steve also pointed out that effective incident management helps build trust within the workforce, as employees feel more secure reporting issues when they know the organisation will respond appropriately, stating:
‘You've got to encourage your staff to want to report something. They've got to have the trust that something's going to happen with that information as well."
Overcoming Common Incident Management Challenges
Mark discussed several challenges that organisations face with traditional incident management systems. One is that many companies still rely on outdated methods, such as paper-based systems and Excel spreadsheets, which lead to inconsistencies and inefficiencies. Larger, more complex systems often require extensive training and can be costly to implement.
The latest version of our Incident Management software aims to address these challenges head-on. Designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, the software is quick to implement, offering immediate benefits without the need for extensive training. COMET can also quickly and easily integrate into an organisations current EHS system, meaning users can supercharge their incident management with minimal disruption.
Client Feedback Shaping COMET's Development
Mark shared how client feedback has been instrumental in shaping the development of our Incident Management module. Mark states,
“One of the biggest points of feedback on incident management software that they're using other companies is that their products are big and cumbersome and slow.”
We used this information to create an accessible and efficient system that could be used throughout an organisation by anyone who needs it.
Key Features of COMET Incident Management

The Evolution and Future of COMET
In the video, Steve candidly speaks about how twelve years ago, the COMET system was a paper-based tool designed exclusively for investigation and root cause analysis. Recognised as one of the best systems available, it under went a significant transformation seven years ago when it was digitised and developed into an app. This digital version has since been adopted by thousands of users worldwide, providing substantial benefits. Over the years, the system has continuously evolved, with numerous new features and enhanced functionalities being added to improve its utility and effectiveness.
Since its inception, the COMET suite has continued to expand its capabilities, adding a range of new features and functionalities. This evolution has turned COMET into a comprehensive ecosystem, offering a suite of additional tools and modules. Through our ‘Assured’ module, users can now conduct audits and inspections and perform root cause analysis on their findings. They can also benefit from our powerful AI module, ‘Signals,’ which processes vast amounts of both unstructured and structured records to provide clear, immediate and essential information that alerts organisations to create real-time actions designed to prevent failure.
The integration of Incident Management and its data has further enhanced COMET'sfunctionality. In Steve’s words,
"That's what machines love, lots and lots and lots of data."
This constant flow of data enables the system to become even more effective over time. Additionally, the Supply Chain Module addresses supplier onboarding and risk management, ensuring a robust and secure process.
The inclusion of the new version of the Incident Management Module has completed the system, offering an end-to-end solution that speaks a common language and follows a unified taxonomy. This allows for genuine root cause learning, helping customers to implement crucial safety measures and protect their people, assets, and the environment. As Steve stated in the video,
"We've got a true end-to-end system that you can buy little individual parts of. You can put it all together. It all speaks to each other."
COMET's evolution has positioned it as a vital tool in ensuring comprehensive safety and efficiency, making it a truly great place to be.
