At COMET, we believe that our success comes from the people behind the work. Supporting our team’s growth and seeing them step into leadership roles is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’re excited to share that Jordan Sleigh has been promoted to Project Development Lead.

Jordan’s journey from Software Developer to this new role reflects not just his hard work and dedication, but also our commitment to creating opportunities for growth within the company. Watching talented individuals like Jordan take on new challenges and grow into management roles is something we’re proud to be part of.

We caught up with Jordan to discuss his journey at COMET, his insights on project development, and what he’s most looking forward to. Here’s what he had to say:

What excites you the most about your new role as project development lead?

"First of all, this was one of my goals in my career to take a step up in my role so of course very excited about that. This will now allow me to set new goals within this role and any future roles. Overseeing projects from concept to implementation, ensuring wedeliver value to users and the business. Being able to grow my leadership skills and guiding the team towards success."

Can you share a highlight from your time at COMET that helped prepare you for this next step?

"It’s difficult to pin point asingle highlight from my time at COMET. When I first joined the company, I mostly worked along side experienced senior team members who have since moved on. This meant I had to step up and take on more responsibility, and lead in key projects. I believe that learning from all my colleagues (regardless of their level or experience) has been extremely valuable in preparing me for this new role."

If you could go back and give yourself advice on your first day at COMET, what would it be?

"100% patience. As a software developer, there are always going to be challenges and unexpected setbacks.Throughout my time at COMET, I have developed the ability to manage frustrations effectively and gained greater confidence in my skills and problem-solving abilities."

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone looking to grow in their software development career?

"Technical skills are of course essential but I also feel communication and collaboration are also very important for growth as a software dev. Something I mentioned already is patience. Having a broad mindset to learn and enhance your skills. Always be willing to take on new challenges. Take authority and responsibility in the work you do."

How do you see your new role contributing to COMET’s success in 2025 and beyond?

"Making sure that the team is aligning with the business goals and delivering efficient and high-quality work to our clients. Creating an environment of growth and learning throughout the team by embracing continuous improvement, and ensuring everyone stays motivated and engaged."

What’s something you like to do outside of work?

"Golf has been a big part of my life from when I started playing at the age of 7/8 years old. The game very much runs in my family tracing back to my great grandfather. My grandfather taught me all the basics and etiquette of the game. My dad and now both myself and my brother play. I am currently a member at Murcar Links but having been born and raised in Banff, I was a long-time member of Duff House Royal where I developed my game. Starting off as a junior with a 36 handicap, I currently play off 1.5 which is the lowest I have ever been. Unfortunately, I definitely do not play anywhere as near as much as I used to. One of my proudest moments at DHR would be winning the 5-day tournament in 2014 at the age of 17 years old becoming the second youngest winner of the event at the time. Beyond the competitive nature, I love the social element of golf and how it provides the opportunity to meet new people and build relationships. I also love the challenges golf brings; anyone who plays golf will know how difficult but rewarding it can be."
